Living rooms don't need to be stuffy! Nor should they be filled with things that can't be touched and enjoyed. I'm all for a beautiful room to entertain guests in but it still needs to be livable for a family. No shrink wrapped sofas.
I love a proper dining room. I love the ceremony of them and the special memories they often hold of celebrations with family and friends. However, I think there is a way to create a dining room that also welcomes little people and makes everyone feel special.
Everybody needs a place where family can be together in a relaxed way. Family rooms are casual by nature but don't need to be without special details that make it personal to the homeowner.
The retreat! Bedrooms to me should be calm, serene environments where you can unwind and relax after a long day. However, I still think you can integrate colour, pattern and texture in interesting ways to achieve this feeling.
Kids rooms are some of my favourite spaces to work in. They allow me to be more light hearted in my approach and clients are usually more open to mixing colour and pattern in their kids spaces, which I love!
The heart of the home! And I truly keep this top of mind when designing and decorating kitchens. They need to be functional, hardworking and pretty!
These tiny spaces can be challenging at times! I love the challenge and always look for ways to create interesting texture and patterns even in bathrooms. It's amazing what you can do with tile these days!
These spaces are becoming increasingly important in our homes and it's the space that most clients want! Even if all you can carve out is a small corner of your basement, they really can make a difference to your everyday life and keep things in order!
Summers in Canada are all too short lived, which is why I think it's so important to make the most of it and give as much attention to our outdoor space as we do our indoor spaces. It certainly adds to the enjoyment and allows you to enjoy them as much as possible from Spring to Fall.
I adore working on cottages! For many, it's their happy place so it's a joy to be part of helping clients make it their own. Cottage decor allows me to be a little more loose and relaxed in my selections and take my cues from the natural surroundings. What could be better?!?
More and more people are working from home. And they are tired of doing so from their dining room tables! So many clients are often combining a home office and seldom used guest space.
The laundry room of today is no longer a dark, dingy, cave-like room in your basement. They are light and bright and functional. Almost making you wish you had to do laundry just to be able to spend more time in them! I said almost....
In between spaces
Leave no stone unturned! Hallways are equally important areas to decorate in your home and shouldn't be neglected. They provide great opportunities to inject some colour and personality in small doses.
